Worthy Boys and Girls Camp

About Worthy Boys and Girls Camp

The Worthy Boys Camp began in 1949 when 48 acres of land were donated to the Rock Hill Pistol Club for a training and firing range. The donation came with the stipulation that a camp for kids had to be developed. The first camp opened that very same year and has been in almost continuous operation since that time.

In 1995, the camp became The Worthy Boys and Girls Camp. Now, the camp welcomes almost 200 York County youth every year. For many boys and girls, the Worthy Boys & Girls camp is their first camp experience.

This is a great opportunity for kids to have fun at a FREE week long overnight camp that is planned and organized by police. Throughout its history, the camp has provided an opportunity for area young people to:

  • Experience the outdoors.
  • Learn new skills such as swimming, first aid and various crafts.
  • Develop new interpersonal skills.
  • Build personal self-esteem.

The camp is located at 2352 Worthy Boys Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Mission and Leadership

Mission

The Worthy Boys and Girls Camp will provide a safe and positive camp environment for children of all backgrounds. We will help children gain an appreciation for their community as well the environment in which they live. We will achieve the goals by exposing the campers to new places, experiences and ideas. The camp’s staff instill in the campers a spirit of sharing and growing together that will become part of their lives. Our camp will allow children to create fun memories, establish new friendships and improve relations between York County youth and the Rock Hill Police Department. In part, creating the future leaders of your community.

Leadership

The camp is operated entirely by the Rock Hill Police Department. Each year, the Rock Hill Police Department Community Services Unit organizes and coordinates the camp. The camp staff are police officers from within the Rock Hill Police Department and supported by other department staff members. Volunteers from the community also contribute their talents and resources to make the camp a success. This opportunity allows York County youth to interact with Rock Hill Police Officers in a positive environment.
