POLICE OFFICER

  • Enforces all federal and state laws and City ordinances relating to public safety and welfare; performs all duties in compliance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations and standards of safety.
  • Performs routine patrol duties, including but not limited to patrolling assigned areas of the City, responding to emergency calls and/or public calls for assistance, investigating criminal incidents, apprehending and arresting suspects and violent persons, securing crime scenes, issuing traffic citations/summonses, seizing property and/or criminal evidence, maintaining public order, interrogating suspects, transporting prisoners, etc.
  • Serves warrants, summonses, subpoenas, civil and other official papers.
  • Assists with criminal investigations; interviews witnesses, complainants and victims; gathers physical evidence and preserves it for court; provides case follow-up as needed.
  • Investigates and reports accidents, dangerous or defective streets, sidewalks, traffic lights, or other hazardous conditions.
  • Prepares incident reports; enters data into computer.
  • Attends community meetings; attends in-service and advanced training; trains subordinate officers.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS

  • Performs specialized work with telecommunications equipment to receive and transmit information. Work requires fast, effective processing of information and the performance of related clerical duties.
  • Receives calls from the general public requesting emergency or safety services.
  • Dispatches appropriate public safety units and assists in obtaining additional information and locating streets and addresses.
  • Coordinates activities between various public safety agencies. Receives radio/telephone calls from field units, transmits messages via radio, telephone, or computer and makes inquiries to obtain information or service of other agencies.
  • Maintains radio contact with public safety units that are on call. Keeps continuous record of status of units in and out of service and on cases.
  • Performs NCIC and SCDMV queries; operates the NCIC terminal.
  • Performs all other duties as may be assigned to meet organizational needs.

CORRECTIONS OFFICER

  • Receives, processes, and secures inmates that are brought into the jail facility.
  • Maintains discipline, safety, and security in the City Jail or while in transit to courts, prison farms, detention centers, and medical facilities.
  • Observes conduct and behavior of arrestees to prevent disturbances and escapes; conducts physical searches of arrestees and cells for contraband articles; performs security checks for damage, safety, and other emergency reasons.
  • Supervises showers, phone calls, visitation, and other inmate activities.
  • Assists with bond hearing as needed to ensure bond hearings are carried out efficiently. Processes bond hearing paperwork and inmate releases in a timely manner.
  • Receives and reviews arrest reports, citation reports, bond payments, commitments, bond hearing certifications, warrants and citations, victim forms, summonses, memos, etc.
  • Completes civilian fingerprints as required.
  • Prepares and/or processes jail lists, booking reports, property release forms, hold forms, fingerprint cards, intake forms, visitation logs, daily shift logs, waivers, etc.
  • Performs clerical duties, including typing and filing; completes reports; answers phones; issues summons.
  • Performs light housekeeping duties; prepares and serves food; gives medication; collects and disposes of trash.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
